It is still winter but foaling season has started here at Magik Dreams Acres. Thank goodness for good friends! Jessi is down sick with the flu, his training duties are being covered by Kate and Sira. Pat is home in Wales visiting with his family for the first time in years. He's having a blast. Micah is scheduled to leave next week for three weeks travelling. That would leave me alone with 4 mares scheduled to foal and 3 of those are maidens! When Venus started bagging up last month, I really hoped she would foal before Micah left. She just adores him and he finds excuses to go stand in the pasture with her. This from a guy who really wasn't horse crazy! Hayden, whose grammy was kind enough to let her Fjords come live with me, is here to help out with the foalings. Venus took an instant liking to her, she must remember her from when she was a tiny foal next to her momma. Aasta is happy to have Hayden around too. Sam, from a neighboring farm is here to help out too. Silk is bred to a stud that produces foals with "substance," big frames, I can just see me trying to help her by myself.
So glad Venus foaled before Micah left! With Hayden and Micah in the stall with her and me in the aisle with Sam, Venus is showing off her new filly to Sam. :) She's really coming around to being the center of attention without getting poked and prodded like she used to have to be. She's sound, but will never be ridden and never sold. Micah appreciates her bloodlines and knows she's special. Looking at his face I think he's dreaming of riding this filly. I hope he and Hayden are brainstorming names!
